  • How to Properly Don a Disposable Respirator

With concerns of the coronavirus escalating, it’s incredibly important for individuals to take the right precautions to protect themselves. We wanted to talk about an issue that is often overlooked— How to properly don (put on) a disposable respirator.

When wearing a disposable respirator, protection is only effective if the product is correctly selected, fitted and worn. Disposable respirators are only effective when the user creates a seal between the edges of the respirator and your face to force the air to move through the air filter.

It is important when wearing a respirator that the user is clean shaven and doesn't have any long hair or jewellery in the way that may interfere with the seal on to the face. Air will take the path of least resistance, and if these barriers are interfering with the seal the air will go around instead of through the respirator instead of through.

In order to get the proper protection from your respirator, it needs to fit properly and a big part of that stems from how you put it on.
